If you watch Top Chef, SPOILER ALERT.
I don’t watch all of the “cool” tv shows everyone else watches. I watch Top Chef because I’m a total foodie and I think Padma is sexy.I’ve seen nearly every single episode of Top Chef for all 10 seasons but this 10th season was really special to me. I’m biased and not ashamed even a little bit. If there’s an Asian contestant, I’m rooting for them. Because us Asian kids living in America just need a role model. To be able to look on the TV once and a while and see a face that looks like ours and isn’t being the stereotypical Asian nerd or ninja or hypersexualized slut. And for the secret part of me that wants to be a chef, just because of this show, Asian chefs are great to root for.Top Chef has always had some amazing Asian chefs. Last season even had two Korean American chefs. But this was the first season to have a Korean adoptee, Kristen Kish. She’s amazingly talented and is very naturally beautiful so of course, I was rooting for her. And after she mentioned that one of the things she would do with her prize money was take her first trip to Korea, my heart was there for her the whole way. Today was the finale and Kristen took home the title. She again, mentioned wanting to visit Korea after winning and I was all bawling and happy. I’ve never been rooting for a contestant so much and couldn’t be happier. Not only were the last two chefs the ones who really deserved to be there… but for an Asian, Korean adoptee female to take home the title…it’s a great thing for all of the other Korean adoptee foodie girls like me watching, to have one more person who “looks just like me” to be someone to look up to : ) Congrats Kristen!! Foodie/adoptee rant done.
